Teachers' Introspection
by: Rolando C. Lavisto
In places where civilization is not there, so goes a commercial slogan, ''Coca cola is there". In like manner I should say that in places where civilization and coke do not abound, the teachers flourishes. Anywhere in the world across the land and seas you can see teachers of different missions mentally influenced by the frenetic tempo of modern civilizations.
A teacher uses every morning to enjoy the luminous rays of the sun producing the brilliant effect on the ruffled surface of the playground for the flag raising ceremony in preparation for the classroom work. Inside the room, his constant companions are pupils of different backgrounds, forgetting all problems left at home, some times devoid of comforts and praises for job well done. In spite of the heavy loads such as writing lesson plans, computing grades, room structuring, physical improvements of the school and other homework, a teacher is always a teacher.
One can be successful teacher if he knows how to make a self-examination. The contemplation of one's mental process and emotional state can lead to a new dimension of life. Teachers' introspection is indispensable.
In the field of labor, the teacher should see to it that his work trends to have a definite result. In attempting to teach a subject, he should have a distinct plan in mind. As a classroom manager he should not rest satisfied with the presentation of the lesson proper until the pupils understand the skills involved.
Pupils must be encouraged to learn just as far as their capabilities will permit. Before taking up the higher objectives in the Minimum Learning Competencies, let the pupils master the lower. This is to often neglected. Even among students in high school and college, there is a great deficiency in the are knowledge of lower learning skills. Many teachers devote their time to higher mathematics when their pupils are in capable of solving a simple arithmetic problem. Some teachers teach elocution so that their pupils can win in the oratorical contests while others members of the class are unable to read in an intelligible and impressive manner. Other teachers have finished teaching rhetoric but pupils fail in the composition and spelling of an ordinary letter.
If you are a teacher, examine yourself. Teachers' introspection is sine qua non to master the higher learning skills. In this way every teaching activity may be come an aid int he solution of that greatest of all problems, the training of the pupils for the best discharge of life's responsibilities.
